This month marks a deeply meaningful milestone for WellFound—20 years of serving alongside communities in some of the world’s most overlooked places.
It all began with a simple moment: our founder, Howard, witnessed the hardship of people in Romania. That spark of compassion ignited a journey that has since reached over 175,000 lives across West Africa.
From the very start, we made a rare commitment to spend 100% of all donations and grants directly on the ground. Many questioned if it could be sustained. Two decades on, that promise still defines us.
Our work has always gone beyond installing wells. It’s about dignity, ownership, and enabling people to shape their own futures. We've now worked in over 200 villages, and in each, we’ve seen the potential for transformation rooted in community leadership, trust, and shared purpose.
As we look ahead, new challenges loom—climate change, inequality, and rising hardship. But our mission endures: to ensure no one is left behind, and that even the most remote families have the tools, hope, and opportunity to thrive.
Thank you to our supporters, funders, trustees, staff, and volunteers, whose dedication and generosity have fuelled WellFound’s 20-year journey. Together, we’ve transformed lives and empowered communities. As we enter this next chapter, we invite you to join us with your prayers, support, and partnership—because with water and community, anything is possible.
Warm wishes,
Dr Antony Kingsley CEO, WellFound
125 women-led vegetable gardens now supply families with nutritious, homegrown food while creating income opportunities. These gardens have improved food security and built resilience against hunger. The project has brought food security, dignity, and empowerment, transforming daily life for the entire community.
Women save time and gain skills in sustainable farming. “Our children now enjoy vegetables even at school,” Mariama shared.
We installed 200 wells and 1,950 sanitation facilities in remote, underserved areas— providing clean water and safe hygiene to thousands. These essential services have reduced disease, improved health, and restored dignity to entire communities.
Jeneba Sesay, a local resident, shared: “We were struggling to fetch water, but God touched the heart of WellFound. This well has changed our lives. We are thankful and hopeful for more development.”
Our programmes are rooted in community ownership—empowering local people, especially women, to lead and sustain change. Training, leadership roles, and collective action are transforming dependency into long-term self-reliance.
WellFound’s sustainable development model empowers individuals and entire communities to thrive long after initial support.
Arlindo Oliveira, 26, trained in construction, helped build latrines in Anopoco (Guinea Bissau) and nearby villages before securing paid work building guesthouse rooms, gaining both income and confidence. Many other WellFound trainees have since launched businesses in solar installation and construction.
WellFound’s progress over the years is a testament to the incredible generosity and unwavering belief of our supporters. Early day support by Seer Green Baptist Church followed by other dedicated congregations, to community-driven fundraising events like golf days, supermarket collections, school partnerships, and raffles, each effort has provided not only vital funds but also the motivation and confidence to keep moving forward.
Our regular monthly donors have been the steady foundation of our work, enabling us to plan, respond swiftly to community needs, and deliver long-term, impactful projects with focus and dedication.
Moreover, the trust placed in us by international donors and institutional funders—such as UKAID, USAID, the Embassies of Japan and the Netherlands, the German Embassy Fund, Action4Schools, Plan International, and UNDP—has been a powerful endorsement of our community-led approach.
Every contribution, big or small, has strengthened our capacity to create lasting change. Together, you have empowered communities with dignity, ownership, and hope.
